Cracker Jack is an American favorite

Sharing a single box of Cracker Jack snacks is making memories. The key is to repeat this little 'ritual' over and over so that my children are guaranteed a level of comfort and at the same time, we are creating cherished memories. These same cherished memories will carry with them for a lifetime.

A memory can be tricky  . . . it can change over time, parts of it can be lost, and sometimes . . . it can totally vanish from the brain.

I like to think I am a wise parent and being the wise parent I want to create cherished memories for my children. I know cherished memories are made through rituals. These rituals are as simple as baking cinnamon rolls together every Saturday morning or reading bedtime stories each night.

Another ritual in our house is something quite effortless  . . . we share a box of Cracker Jack snacks.

I know this because I used to share a box of Cracker Jack snacks with my grandmother when I visited her on Sundays. I was not allowed to have sweets and candies as a child, but when I visited my grandmother, she would take me into her parlor and sit me on the settee and open her special drawer. This drawer held all types of goodies for me and my brothers to select from. I always chose a box of Cracker Jack snacks and she would sit with me and let me eat the entire box.

Each red, white and blue box, sporting Sailor Jack and his trusty dog filled me with excitement and it welled up and down to the tips of my toes. I would sit on the settee with my feet fluttering about in anticipation.

My grandmother would open the box for me and let me dump the sugary sweet candy coated popcorn studded with peanuts on her apron-covered lap looking for the well-deserved prize. My grandmother never said a word about the popcorn sticking to her apron and let me enjoy my delicious treat. She would snaffle a few peanuts and a couple of roundest pieces, as those were her favorites. I was particularly fond of the stickiest coated popped kernels that would stick together is a large mass and shove those straight into my mouth, munching away in pleasure.

Every time I see a box of Cracker Jack snacks now, this memory will pop in my mind and I will smile. I love this memory of my grandmother and me, sitting in the parlor, eating a box of Cracker Jack snacks.

Intuitively, I want to carry on this cherished memory with my daughters. Each time I share a box of Cracker Jack snacks with my daughters, I chat with my grandmother in my mind. Telling her how much I miss her, I tell her about my own daughters and I ask her advice, as though she were sitting opposite me, popping a perfectly round coated kernel in her mouth. I close my eyes and I can see her smiling. This is how a granddaughter can place so much importance in Cracker Jack.

These are special memories for my daughters and I . . . I feed them, I listen to them and I love them . . . and I steal their Cracker Jack snacks!

Go make your own memories now.

Cracker Jack is continuing this 120-Year Legacy of Enhancing Lifetime Memories for myself and fans across the nation. The brand is expanding the wonderful option of Cracker Jack and offering new flavors, improved prizes and more peanuts (my grandmother would be so happy about this).

“After 120 years, we knew it was the right time for the Cracker Jack brand to modernize to really suit the changing snacking preferences among our biggest fans – while still remaining true to our nostalgic roots,” said David Skena, vice president of marketing, Frito-Lay. “By offering improved prizes, more peanuts and delicious new flavors, we’re giving our fans a new and improved product experience that still celebrates what they’ve loved about Cracker Jack snacks all these years.”

The unanimous favorite in this household is the Cracker Jack Kettle Corn popcorn. We were all literally, grabbing for the bag and laughing and giggling trying to snaffle kernels away from each other. My husband even said he enjoyed the Kettle Corn popcorn and he is a huge fan of the delicious blend of caramel-coated popcorn and peanuts known as the ever popular Cracker Jack Original popcorn snack.
