DIY Mini Glitter Bottles

The days between Christmas and New Year’s is a time when we clean up from the Christmas mess. All the decorations are stores away until next year, broken bits are thrown away, unused decorations are donated and our home gets some deep cleaning from the holiday parties. We clean and organize to get ready to host our annual New Year’s Eve Party!

If you are planning on hosting a New Year’s Eve or New Year’s Day party this year, then these mini champagne bottles covered with glitter will be a wonderful addition to your party or gathering. I actually made these DIY Mini Glitter Bottles on Sparkling Grape Juice mini bottles for all the kiddos at our New Year’s Eve soiree and added glitter to the adult’s champagne bottle.

I have a friend who doesn’t even allow glitter in her home! LOL Can you imagine?! So, if you are not fond of glitter like my friend, don’t fear! Glitter is easy to work with or easier than you think it is to work with! These instructions will work on any glass bottle, plastic bottle or glassware, and even plasticware! Simply follow the instruction below to make your very own glitter-covered bottle and learn in this step-by-step tutorial on how to decorate alcohol bottles with glitter!

SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR DIY MINI GLITTER CHAMPAGNE BOTTLES:

  • Mini Bottles of Sparkling Wine or Sparkling Grape Juice for the kiddos – Champagne, Prosecco, Sparkling Wine, or Sparkling Grape Juice. I used mini bottles of Sparkling Grape Juice.

  • Glitter (all varieties work) – I used regular silver glitter, extra-fine blue glitter, and extra-fine white glitter. Glitter is available in pretty much any color your select. I preferred the regular glitter to the extra-fine glitter, but either will work well.

  • GLUE, Modge-Podge or spray adhesive – I used clear Elmer’s glue.

  • Painter’s Tape – Painter’s tape is great for ease of use and easy to remove from the bottle after the glue and glitter dry.

  • Paint Brush - Used to brush on the clear glue.

  • Acrylic Sealer Spray – This is optional, but be warned, if you don’t seal your bottles, your little people will be dropping glitter all over your house from their mini sparkling grape juice bottle covered in glitter.

  • Ribbon – For decoration

  • Straws – For drinking!

STEP ONE: Purchase your bottles - whether you are serving non-alcohol or champagne - be sure to purchase pretty bottles with pretty paper on top of the bottle to cover with glitter.

STEP TWO: I cut a large plastic garbage bag in half and covered my countertop with the plastic bag. I then took a cardboard box and placed the bottles inside the box. Wrap the portion you do not want to be covered in glitter with painter’s tape. Brush the glue (or spray) on the areas you would like covered in glitter.

STEP THREE: Next simply shake your glitter on the glue-covered bottle. Work quickly to sprinkle the glitter all around the bottle. Ensure you cover all the empty spaces near the top and bottom of the bottle. If there are areas where the glitter is uneven, simply wait for the glue to dry and repeat the process again. The reason I like the regular glitter is that it covered much quicker and better. The extra-fine glitter will need multiple coverings of glitter.

STEP FOUR: Once the bottles are evenly covered, gently remove the painter’s tape and set aside to dry.

TIP: If you have selected a light-colored fine glitter, you will need multiple coats of glitter for full coverage. I selected white fine glitter and I would not recommend this as coverage as it took many, many coats and I could still see the green bottle through the glitter.

STEP FIVE: I recommend completing your glitter-covered mini champagne bottle one day in advance or at the very least, in the morning on the day of your party. Each mini glitter champagne bottle will need a full TWO HOURS to dry completely, especially if you have multiple coats of glue and glitter on them.

STEP SIX: Once all the Mini Glitter Champagne Bottles are dry, spray each glitter dipped champagne bottle generously with clear acrylic sealer to avoid having all the children and adults splatter glitter all through your home. I recommend completing the glitter wine bottles and glasses one day in advance.

STEP SEVEN: Decorate with pretty ribbon and straws.
