SUMMARY
Eight-year-old Sarah Noble and her father embark on a journey through the wilderness of Connecticut in 1707 to start a new chapter in their lives. Living in the wilderness with her father, Sarah occasionally struggles to muster courage when unfamiliar sounds echo through the woods. Nevertheless, Sarah quickly forms new friendships in her remote dwelling, and when she finds herself alone while her father goes to bring back the rest of the family, Sarah discovers the true essence of courage.
Every unit study includes educational lessons, activities, and engaging pages for students to complete while going through the book. These studies are designed for students in grades Kindergarten through 4th, but can likely be adjusted for older students too.

What ages are these units for?
I typically suggest my literature units for young readers in grades 1-5. You can distribute them individually to your students so they can read on their own and then complete the mini-book assignment for each chapter. Each chapter includes writing assignments where students respond to comprehension questions from the reading. It's important to ensure that they feel at ease with writing.
Alternatively, you can read it collectively as a group if you have younger readers, and then have them finish the mini-book tasks after each chapter.
How much time is needed for the literature unit?
Time needed varies based on your child’s reading speed and the number of chapters in the book! Also, consider the speed at which your child goes through the chapters. Every unit has a different length, and you can adjust them to suit your timetable. For instance, you could opt to assign one chapter each day along with the corresponding mini-book tasks, or you could have them complete 2-3 per week. You have complete control over your schedule and how you work with your students.
READING CONSIDERATIONS
