This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of the Walgreens Quit for Good campaign. All opinions are 100% mine. #for18+

When I was a young girl growing up in rural Iowa, I remember most of the adults around me were smokers. It was part of my childhood. My grandmother smoked, my mother smoked, my aunts and uncles smoked, and when my brothers were old enough, they began to smoke. Sadly, my grandmother died from lung cancer when I was in my twenties after smoking her entire adult life. After she passed, my mother, uncles, and aunts all committed to stop smoking. shortn.ly/ouAe

Walgreens Nicotine Gums are pieces of gum that are chewed and then rest on the inside of the cheek while nicotine is absorbed through the lining of the mouth. Nicotine products work by replacing some of the nicotine that was supplied by smoking cigarettes.

Proper chewing of gum is essential for optimal results. Following the instructions, a person should chew the gum until the nicotine taste tingles, then park the gum between the cheek and gum until the tingle disappears, then chew a few more times to release more nicotine. Mostly, a person would repeat this for 30 minutes, then discard the gum.

Chewing the nicotine gum releases nicotine that will be absorbed through the mouth. Chewing at least one piece of gum every one to two hours while awake is recommended and also whenever there is an urge to smoke. Use up to 24 pieces of gum can be chewed per day for six weeks. The user is gradually reducing the gum over the second six weeks, for a total duration of three months. Then, success in the quest to quit for good!

DIY Survival Gift Box Kit

My brother is a bachelor and works long hours following building plans and blueprints when responding to, diagnosing, and resolving plumbing emergencies to keep hospitals safe for patients. The craziest thing about this habit of smoking for my brother is that he is one of the healthiest people I know. He is borderline vegetarian, eats all organic, does not eat any sugar, and works out at the gym every single day.

I thought I would make him a DIY Survival Gift Box Kit to increase his chances of success and to aid him on his quest to Quit for Good. My brother needs to substitute smoking with some other activities.

I wanted to add some things to this gift box kit for my brother to utilize in place of smoking. My brother needs to retrain his brain and create some new muscle memories to replace the muscle memories of smoking. If he is continually using his hands with tasks, his mind will not be remembering to grab a cigarette. This little DIY Survival Gift Box Kit was super simple to put together. Here are a few things I used:

  • A Deck of Cards – Solitaire will be his new best friend

  • A Bunch of Paracord - Perfect for getting started on new paracord projects

  • A Few Squishies - A couple of small ones to keep in his pockets & a big one to remain at home

  • A Rotating Cube - A great manipulation toy

  • A Couple of Books – A fantastic story to pass the time

  • Walgreens smoking cessation products - Various Walgreens smoking cessation products

  • Fresh flowers – Something that smells amazing!

  • Box or small crate – Anything with a sturdy bottom will do.

  • Crinkle paper filler – A sister always needs to make it pretty!

I will be super supportive of my brother during the next few weeks and months as he really tries to quit for good! I am super excited for him, and I know the rest of our family is going to be as supportive to help him on this new journey.
