What are you doing for back to school lunches this year? My youngest daughter’s high school has closed their cafeteria for the semester, and my two oldest children are a mix of homeschool, distance learning, and part-time at in-person school. I needed some creative guidance with school lunches this school year, and Walmart’s Supercenter & Neighborhood Market deli counter has been an enormous solution for me!

This school year, I have three kiddos in three different schools in three completely different directions. My youngest daughter is attending high school full-time every day. My oldest daughter is attending community college part-time as a distance learner in the dual enrollment program while finishing high school at our home homeschool. Her community college is entirely online this semester. My son is also attending a community college (but a different college than my daughter) full-time as a distance learner except for two classes that include labs he attends on campus. The college campus is only open to these lab classes for this semester.

With these three different school schedules, we are on the go all the time! I am driving one child to school each morning and then rushing home to ensure my other two children log on to their online classes. On specific days, I drive my son to his lab classes. I usually wait in the parking lot because we live so far away, and I would have to turn right around if I drove home. No one is allowed on the campus except students with identification, so I have to wait in the parking lot or run some errands.

Since I have three kiddos in three different schools, their schedules are varied. They couldn’t have any overlapping classes since I drive my children to and from school and classes. Because of our crazy schedules, I am pretty much out every day during lunchtime since the drive between schools is quite far and long.

LUNCHES FOR DISTANCE LEARNERS & HOMESCHOOLERS

Thankfully, a Walmart Supercenter & Neighborhood Market is located conveniently by all three of my children’s schools! So I have three different Walmart store options! I head to my closest local Walmart Supercenter & Neighborhood Market while waiting for class to end for my son for lunch for myself and pick up lunch for him and myself since we are always in transit to and from schools. I usually pick up lunch for my daughter as well since she is home waiting.

We do live in the Chicagoland area, and this city is famous for hot dogs! Chicago gives hot dogs so much respect! Hot dogs are a part of who Chicagoans are! Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs are the best option for us because they are all original, made with 100% premium beef. They also do not contain any artificial flavors or colors and no by-products.

Each of Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs is individually wrapped and kept in the hot & ready case to grab as many as I need for the day. The Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs are fully cooked, warm, and prepared to eat as soon as you leave the Walmart Supercenter if you like. Each Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs package contains a small packet of mustard and ketchup as well.  But, no one in Chicago eats a hot dog with ketchup! It’s sort of a time-honored rule: no ketchup on hot dogs. Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs is the most perfect on the go snack or meal for my kids and myself this school year.

My two oldest children work part-time jobs, and they both work weird, odd hours due to their school schedules. They only have 15-minute breaks during their workday schedule and do not have time to purchase a meal, heat a meal, or go to a nearby restaurant to eat if they are hungry. They always let me know what time their break will be, and I can conveniently pick up Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs at Walmart since Walmart Supercenter is located by their place of employment. My kiddos can have a hot & ready dinner that will tide them over for two or three hours, and I’m not spending a fortune for an on the go lunch or dinner for them.

LUNCHES FOR KIDS ATTENDING SCHOOL IN-PERSON

My youngest daughter’s cafeteria is closed this semester, and she has to bring a cold lunch every day. She is a pretty picker eater, so I needed to make a plan for her school lunches. I wanted to get some fun into my daughter’s day, so a fun lunch option for her is the Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs from the Walmart Supercenter & Neighborhood Market. Packing a cheerful and warm reminder from home can brighten her day. Plus, Nathan’s Famous Hot Dogs are so economical and so much more affordable than the hot lunch that used to be available at her school. I’m a big fan of prepping ahead of time, and creating a fun, picnic-style school lunch for her and Walmart Supercenter has been an enormous help!
