Apple Picking on a Glorious Fall Day in Chicago
Every year we take the children apple picking at a local orchard that has become our favorite. It is a family outing that we look forward to every year and our day there never disappoints. This year there has been loads of construction on the tollway, so we opted for the back roads route. Naturally, I got us all lost because I have absolutely zero sense of direction. So we had an enjoyable ride out in the country along some winding roads. Finally we were rolling up to the Orchard on this side road and the children were shouting with joy. The orchard is charming, inviting and always makes for an enjoyable day.My children are no strangers to apple picking and dive right into the activity with their bags in tow. They fill up their bags and move onto ours (my bag and my husband's). I happily walk along, tagging behind with my camera while munching on a delicious, fresh jonagold apple. I relish in the sunshine, the Fall scent of the orchard, and the family fun that is taking place.
After the children had picked their share of apples, we head away from the orchards and let the children partake in all the fun activities. We started this family tradition a decade ago and this year proves to be another treasured one.
Have you visited an apple orchard this fall? What is your favorite apple recipe to make? I'll have a post up soon with all my favorite apple recipes.
