Inspiring Ideas to Take Better Summer Photographs

When the summer sunshine finally arrives here in the midwest, Chicago to be exact, we really can’t wait to spend time outdoors. We certainly have enough of gloomy weather all winter long and spring can be fierce and cold here as well.  We wait so long to enjoy the elusive sun, when it finally makes an appearance; we are outdoors all day long, literally soaking up as many vitamin D rays as possible.

Thankful For Home

Thursday we celebrated Thanksgiving, a time to gather with our family and friends to specifically thank God for the many blessings we enjoy each and every day. Our small family has many things to be thankful for . . . a good job, a beautiful home, healthy children, wonderful grandparents, beautiful friends{on the inside too}, the opportunity to homeschool and so much more. We have an aattitude of graditude this week.

May the Lord continually BLESS YOU with Heaven's blessings as well as with human joys. Psalm 128:5

Been Busy This Week
♥ Orange The children and I went to the pumpkin patch last Friday and then by Monday we were all sick. Two of my kiddos were on the mend before our little outing and then full on sick again after school on Monday. By Wednesday we were all a miserable mess. My little one had to be put on a breathing machine to help her get through the day and everyone is on heavy antibiotics to get over the worst of these colds. I'm happy to say that tonight we are feeling better, but most of us still have lingering heavy coughs (me included). Here is the Dragon Pumpkin Eater at the pumpkin farm.
Fall Fun Days

I can't believe I was actually fully prepared for this week's challenge! My week has been crazy . . . returning from a very busy weekend, sick children all week long, misplaced homework assignment, found homework assignments, party planning, school outings and all while trying to keep my house clean, clothes washed and dinner on the table! Don't even ask me if I have had time for a shower, which by the way I have, but my hair is another story!

Here is my take on this week's challenges . . .

It has been raining here on and off for the past day or so and it was so easy to capture some water dripping around my house.

How Was your Weekend?

This past weekend my family and I took a driving trip to Iowa to visit my little brother and his family for their Homecoming celebration in their home town. My kiddos had only been to one high school football game a couple of years ago and didn't really have a clue what to expect. My brother was so excited we were in town to celebrate Homecoming with him. My baby brother actually told me he was so happy I came back because we had not watched football together in over 20 years!

The kiddos were so excited to have their faces painted and my son even let his cousin's pals  spray paint his hair. His cousin's friends were very impressed with the fact that my son is homeschooled. I even over heard "I give you mad props dude". So that made me happy my son didn't have to be embarrassed or explain what homeschooling was all about!

The evening game was great and cold. Very, very cold. We literally froze our bums off!

Yellow & Purple

So I feel as if I have been away from Scavenger Sunday for-EVER! Even though it has only been a couple of weeks. We've been mad busy around these parts as the  hustle and bustle of school continues. Fall in the midwest is a busy place to live. There is so much to do and so much to see during this beautiful transition time of year.

Plus, we've been celebrating some birthdays around these parts.  I now have a nine year old daughter and she had such a blessed day. I hit a landmark age as well . . . 45. GAH! I don't even want to say that out loud! This birthday was tough on me. Each year my birthday has always been a great day of fun and laughter. But this year, I was not laughing much and I really wasn't that happy. I don't know what it is, 45 just seems like such a dreadful age! My father never made it to this age and it makes me sad to think that I feel so young still, yet I know so many people who have passed by this age as well. Just dire thoughts I know.

Anyway, I am back in the swing of things with hundreds of photos to edit and only a few to show here this week.

End Of Summer Fun
♥ School So our first week of school is over and I am happy to report that it was smooth sailing {with only a few small gusts huffing away at the poppets}. My son has settled into the new school year without a bit of a hiccup. My little one was only slightly frustrated this week in her transition to first grade and a not so easy curriculm{I've actually been giving her some second grade work as well, but I know she can handle it}. My middle child . . . my amazing independent girl . . . my child with the most vivid imagination . . . who does not want to be contained and can't be bothered with sitting in a chair at school . . . is not too happy to have to sit and read information that has nothing to do with horses or dragons. This will be a bit of a struggle for her, this transition to third grade. As you know the changes between second grade and third grade are quite drastic. But she will muster through, my tough girl.
Sunday News
Sunset I finally conceded and let my husband purchase a small pool for the children for the backyard. I am incredibly neurotic about the kiddos and water and drowning and dry drowning. I tend to freak myself out a bit whenever I see the children choking. The kiddos have begged for a pool for years and after a day at the local swimming pool of getting splashed in the face about 17,000 times by other children, I agreed. Swimming at sunset, who it could be so much fun.
Less Stress . . . More Happiness . . .

Things are starting to wind down here around the Tantrum's house.

I had such a lovely day for Mother's Day, I simply have to share. My children gave me strict instructions the night prior that I was not to get up out of bed as they were making me breakfast and serving it to me in bed. They let me know I could sleep as late as I wanted to. I tried, I really did, but when you have three little ones who are so full of barely contained excitement who keep coming in to see if you are still sleeping . . . well, you don't really get to sleep late. I received so many extra hugs in bed that morning and they were each all so very special. Needless to say, I can downstairs to a lovely breakfast!
