My daughter spied a new Netflix show, A Series of Unfortunate Events, to watch and immediately wanted to watch it and asked her siblings, my son and youngest daughter if they would like to watch as well. My son was doing homework and literally yelled at his sisters that they were not allowed, under any circumstances, to watch A Series of Unfortunate Events, without him. I myself wanted to watch this new Netflix series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, as well because I had spent so many hours reading these delightful books to all of my children over the past decade. The new Netflix adaptation of A Series of Unfortunate Events, premiered on Netfllix Jan. 13.Read More

I love to see what ideas my kids come up with from one year to the next. Each year I try to do something a bit different, so we are not always creating the same old gingerbread house. One year we made an entire tiny village of tiny gingerbread houses. The next year we made one bit house with an entire family of gingerbread men. Another year, we created a gingerbread train that was full of tiny presents for my kids.
There is so much creativity that comes out of my children when they have a vision for their gingerbread house and I love that with this one family Christmas activity we are creating happy, lasting memories.Read More

Fall isn't just the season of holidays. It is the season of gathering together with family and close friends. Fewer and fewer of us have a big family dinner these days. I remember when I was a child growing up in rural Iowa, we visited my grandmother every Sunday after church. My brothers and I rode horses, climbed trees, played in the meadow, scoured the windmill tower and then after we had explored everything, we were called indoors for a delicious dinner. This was my Sunday and I loved every part of that day each week.Read More
Winter break is fast approaching and I am so looking forward to a bit of a rest and reprieve from school and activities. We are ready to have a blast over winter break and be taken back to the 11th century at Medieval Times Dinner & Tournament. My daughters are so excited to see the gorgeous Andalusian horse show, and swoon over the knights defending their realm. We all can't wait to see abeautiful princess and a king try to save their kingdom. are only some of the wonders the family can enjoy together.Read More
The fall has been lingering here in Chicago and giving us a wonderful break from an early winter. Winter break will be on us all soon enough and I for one am not the least bit prepared. The schedules my children have this school year ramped up so quickly, I have yet been able to catch my breath.
I really thought we would be easing into the school year and all their work was at a sprinting pace from day one. I really never had the opportunity to sort, purchase and label everything my children and myself need for the new school year because we have been at warp speed. I realized this past month that all my kids backpacks are in dire need of replacement.Read More

The day for tricking and treating is upon us and it is pouring rain outdoors. My kids are so upset. I thought to cheer them up a bit and make some Halloween Bark!
This is literally one of the easiest recipes to throw together in moments. Most likely you will also have all the ingredients in your home already. You could begin with chocolate pieces (a bog of chips would work) or almond bark . . . this I always have in my house - it is VERY versatile. Grab some pretzels and whatever else your taste buds desire.Read More

September has been a month that began with ease. We were on a good roll with our new school schedules and settling in with new classes and new activities. Then all of a sudden, I do not know what happened, but September tried to kill me.
I have three kids at two different schools and all their activities are on different days, in different direction and at different locations. Like, I need a clone STAT! And I also need everyone to just stop leaving their house so I don't have the issue of traffic to deal with ☺Read More

I think autumn is finally here in Chicago. I was actually able to turn the air conditioner off just this past weekend and my husband is so happy about that one as I think I was freezing him out of the house. But in my defense, I totally have this thing where I can't sleep with the windows open, at all, like, not, one-single-window. So, I have to have the air on in the house because all the windows are closed up tight at night when I go to bed.Read More
