This past weekend my family and I drove to Kentucky to visit the Creation Museum. This is a museum we have wanted to visit since it opened and we were all very excited to finally fit it into our busy schedule.

If you are unfamiliar with the Creation Museum, it is essentially a state-of-the-art museum that brings the pages of the Bible to life. I realize that we live in a very diverse world, and there may be families who are not the least bit interested in a family-friendly, Christian museum. However, these days, it seems like it is more and more challenging to locate appropriate entertainment options for our children.

Creation Museum Exhibits

For those interested in a family-friendly, Christian environment, the Creation Museum is the perfect museum to visit. The Creation Museum delivers exciting Bible stories using new media that our younger generation expects and enjoys. My children were having so much fun at the Creation Museum, they didn't want to leave AND they can't wait to return.

Were Dinosaurs Dragons?

Creation Museum Dinosaurs

We were greeted inside the museum’s portico with a spectacular dragon exhibit. Were Dinosaurs Dragons? are almost the first thing you see and my daughters adore dragons, so this was exciting for them. The dragon exhibit explores eight legends in a festive environment.

Special-Effects Theater-Men in White

We began our morning in the special effects theater with the Men in White. Here you will meet Wendy, Gabe and Mike, two contemporary angels. Gabe and Mike are there to help Wendy with some things she is pondering. You will hear Genesis like never before! Prepare for some fun—and some surprises.

1) Stargazer's Planetarium

We then ventured over to the Stargazer's Plantarium for the Fires In The Sky Show.  We learned about Comet ISON and how comets support a young universe in this spectacular planetarium show. Where will you be this November when Comet ISON passes by?

Noah's Cafe

We decided to have a bit of lunch at Noah's Cafe as the kiddos needed a bit of a pick up after all that engrossing information. We all enjoyed a tasty lunch and then we were off to explore the museum walk-through.

Museum Walk-Through

The museum walk through is a one-way, self-guided tour. You simply walk at your own pace through history. Use the Bible as your starting point, Genesis, and travel back to the beginning of creation. We walked through the exhibit and viewed the timeline of the universe utilizing the seven C's of history per the Creation Museum.

My daughter was very excited about Lucy's bones as she studied Lucy in Science this year. Some great reading material for your children to correspond with this exhibit is The Hawk That Dare Not Hunt by Day or Ink on his Fingers. My children and I really enjoyed this area immensely. We are a Christian homeschooling family and the stories and exhibits presented in the walk-through solidified what we teach and learn at home and at church.

My children were very familiar with all the Bible stories and the presentations. They especially loved the Guttenberg Press replica and viewing Martin Luther post his 95 Thesis. We studied the Christian Reformation this entire school year and this brought a lot of joy to the children to see these two exhibits.

There really is so much to see, I couldn't possibly mention it all. This is a great presentation for Christian families, as well as those who have not been introduced to Christianity. This would be the place to begin to explore and obtain answers to questions you may have.

2) Dr. Crawley's Insectorium

My children are all about bugs and loved this exhibit. Me, well, I don't think I enjoyed it quite as much, but it was a spectacular collection. Hopefully, my children do not get any grand ideas!

3) Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens are beautiful. We enjoyed walking through the paved, accessible trails. I was snapping away taking photos for later use in my own front yard! There are over a half-mile of nature trails, dramatic waterfalls, beautiful gardens, picnic pavilions, and six bridges to enjoy in this area.

4) Petting Zoo

Our day wouldn't be complete until we spent some time in the petting zoo at the Creation Museum. My children adore animals and we saved it for the end of the day because we knew we would never get them to leave this area. They were able to see a variety of God's amazing creatures, including a zorse, zonkey, and a coati. Of course, my kiddos are all about the chickens and there was plenty there for them to love on.

5) Zip Line

My husband and my son were able to enjoy the Adventure Tour the following day at the Creation Museum while my daughters and I returned to view more of the walk through, bugs and dinosaurs. We even visited Dragon Hall Bookstore and stocked up on some Dragon books.
