« Recreation For My Kids »

As a young girl I enjoyed sledding and snowmobiling. My brothers and I couldn’t wait for the snow and cold weather so we could get out the sled and head for the golf course. I don't enjoy winter these days,  but I still have those pleasant memories of fun in the snow as a child.

The January and February weather usually keeps us in the house with little opportunity to get outdoors. Since we can’t escape the snow and ice in Chicago, we try to enjoy some winter sports. We are fortunate enough to have a forest preserve literally across the street from our neighborhood. What most people don't know is that this same forest preserve that provides great summer fun for picnics and bike rides also offers great winter fun for my kids.

Poetic Winter Photography Challenge

Since we have not had any snow flying about in mass quantities, the forest preserve has been open for roaming about and not freezing our toes off. My kids love nothing more when I am driving home from school and I pull into the forest preserve versus our street. On Monday, I surprised them all by turning right instead of left.

I couldn't get them back in the car.

Great shots! The forest is always an adventure. We have untouched nature just outside our backdoor and my girls love playing there.

That last picture is so very sweet. Their smiles light up their faces. And I love little nature preserves, too. Mild winters (without snow) are ok with me, but I live in Michigan so who am I kidding. Although... this year has been nice.

Nice post! Wonderful captures of the kiddos.

There's something about the starkness of leafless trees in winter that I love. Great images.
