At 17 months baby girl finally started to walk. Our cautious little girl, she looked so adorable and was so proud of herself. She stuck by furniture and walls and was so very cautious. Two days after she started to walk she had a terrible fall. This fall led us to the E.R. I almost had a heart attack and definitely acquired a new mass of gray hair with that fall. She was diving from the recliner to the footstool and missed, smashing her face into the footstool.Oh, it was just awful, the blood, the missing gums. Just awful! I was so afraid that she had permanently damaged her gums. Baby girl completely tore her frenulum off and the gums above her front teeth were partially missing as well. It was something awful to look at and I really feared she would be disfigured!
We took her to a Pediatric Dentist and he examined her and she was so brave. He said that her gums may or may not return, but her teeth were not damaged. But I am happy to say that right now, the gums are almost completely grown back! The frenulum is still partially missing and I am not sure if that will ever grow back.
I wrote the above when baby girl turned two years old . . . I have an addendum today . . . the frenulum and the gums have been damaged again . . .oh, oh, oh. Poor Baby Girl . . . she took a nose dive or should I say face dive into our granite counters the other day.
I have a step stool up against the island in the kitchen for the children to watch me while I am cooking, cleaning, baking or just in the kitchen in general. Baby girl likes to stand on the inside of this stool leaning on the counter instead of leaning on the stool. I kept showing her where to stand and that how she liked to stand was dangerous. I was putting apples away on Sunday and I hear a thump behind my back . . . baby girl was lying on the floor . . . the thump was her head hitting the floor (and yes, it is a horrible sound for any mother to hear) . . . after she smashed her face into the granite counter.
I jumped into action immediately because I knew exactly what had happened. All the while my husband is shouting at me in the background . . . "I told you so" . . . (Yes, dear I know you told me so!) Blood, blood everywhere, quick inspection of the teeth . . . still there (granite is hard!) . . . frenulum . . . bleeding and ripped again . . . but not too bad . . . gums on uppers . . . bleeding and slighting gouged . . . bottom lip . . . . wowzy . . . big gash . . . puffy and purple. That is where most of the damage was. Not too terrible, not the worst we have seen in this house and definitely not the last we have seen in this house.
My baby girl . . . my clumsy little girl who trit-trots through this house, weaving this way and that with no real direction, running at full speed into corners and tripping over her turned in feet, my baby girl who literally gives me heart palpitations on a daily basis. My clumsy little toddler!
Please baby girl, watch where you are going . . . I don't know how much more my heart can take!

I am in pain just reading about it, let alone seeing the pictures that go with it. I hope she's feeling better!
I know what you are saying. I have one of those clumsy toddler's too! It just pulls at the those heart strings. But the pictures of her 'crawling' are just so cute.
Oh no! I am so sorry! Sometimes these accidents are worse on us Moms than they are on the kid!

Oh, your poor baby girl. My number one did the same thing. Twice. I'll have to look and see if her thingy grew back. :)
I was thinking.. Cute pictures and then oh my! Poor girl! I HATE mouth wounds.. they are a common occurance around here.

I hear you, there are so many heart stopping moments when they are so small. I once hucked a coffee table out the front door, when my oldest (then my youngest) fell and dented her head on the corner. The neighbors didn't quite know what to think.
My youngest rolled out of bed when she was three and broke her collar bone, and I didn't believe it, until my wife brought her back from the E.R. with her little brace. Yeah I got father of the year that year.
Ohhh..poor thing!! I can't imagine the feelings you had when it happened!! Hugs to you and her!
Poor baby! I can't believe I made it through three kids without a single frenulum mishap.

Oh man - that's a lot of falling on her mouth! Glad things are okay!
UGH....the bumps and bruises! Our gums have survived by all of the girls have chipped teeth from falling. It is the first thing I check when they fall!
Awww! Poor baby. I'm glad it wasn't any worse than that. I have a very clumsy toddler also. She never watches where she's going. Thankfully, so far we've only had some fat lips and bleeding tongues, and one bleeding forehead. No ER visits yet (hopefully ever).

OUCH!! That's so horrible! My five year old did that 2 years ago and now has 4 dead teeth. I hate it because they are, of course, the top front four and they are such an ugly color! I can't wait til he starts losing those baby teeth!
Oh, she sounds like my firstborn son! It was always something with him.

All three of my daughters didn't walk until they were between 16 - 17 months too. They "knee walked" and scooted. So cute!
You're poor little girl's lip! Ugh! I know how that feels. One of my dd fell when she was 2 and had to get 11 stitches! Glad you little one is going to be ok :-)
OMG, I took an extremely deep breath on the pics of the gums! Poor baby! I think I'll be traumatized all day today! Ughhh! I'm glad she'll be okay! Man, kids!

Wow. I don't know if my heart could have taken any of that. But I guess I wouldn't have a choice. We've been lucky so far, I have only seen blood come from Tristan once and it was just a little from his lip. It's only a matter of time I know. Glad to know she has no real damage though.
Have mercy....Ouch! Dental injuries are one of my biggest fears in life....she sounds like she's a tough little cookie.
I always wonder why such beautiful, adorable, princessy type girls are the clumsiest....I have a daughter just like that....constant bruises and scrapes and busted lips....but they still remain beautiful, adorable and princessy even with their owies.

my poor little tulip had a bloody lip about a week ago too...but it wasn't nearly as bad. so sad for your little pumpkin! hope her mouth feels better soon!

I am so sorry this happened to your precious baby girl! My 7 year old gave us a scare when she was 2 1/2. She loved to jump up and fall on her knees. One time she landed wrong and fell on her chin. When she landed, her front teeth were behind her back teeth and she pushed her 4 middle, bottom back teeth forward. We had to make a visit to a pediatric dentist as well. She is OK today but my was that scare. Lots of blood too. I hope your little girl is feeling better!
My little diva is so clumsy too. She falls all the time but just gets up and keeps going!

Oh NO! I hope she gets better real soon. I was quite clumsy as a child and added more than my fair share of gray hairs to my moms head.

Poor little thing! When I was 3 or 4 I feel off a swing onto a metal grate and knocked my two front teeth out, tore the frenulum, and damaged the gums. I simply had to wait for my permanent teeth to come in and the gum is still up a little over one of the teeth, the frenulum never did grow back but it hasn't been an issue. However I can't whistle, maybe that's why?
Hope she stops tumbling. :(
